It usually starts with a call about a parcel, a SIM card or a bank account “used in a crime”. The call is transferred to a fake officer, often on a video call from a room made to look like a police station, with uniforms and official-looking letters.
You are told you are under “digital arrest”, must stay on camera, must not tell your family, and must move your savings to a “safe government account” while you are investigated. The money goes straight to mule accounts.
There is no such thing as a digital arrest in Indian law. No agency questions or arrests people over WhatsApp or Skype, and no agency asks you to transfer money to prove your innocence.
