“Power will be cut tonight”: fake electricity bill messages

An SMS says your last bill was not updated and your connection will be cut tonight unless you call an “electricity officer” — who then asks you to pay a small amount through a link or app.

પકડાયેલા જોખમના સંકેતો · 0/4

  • Disconnection warning from a 10-digit personal number
  • No consumer number, or a vague “previous month bill not updated”
  • A request to install an app to “update” the bill
  • Pressure to pay a small amount immediately

આ કેવી રીતે થાય છે

The message comes from a personal mobile number, not your electricity board’s sender ID, and gives a number to call. The “officer” sounds helpful and asks for a token payment of ₹10 or ₹20 to “update the bill”.

The payment page or the app they ask you to install captures your card details or gives them remote control of your phone. The small payment is a trick — the real loss happens afterwards.

Electricity boards send notices with your consumer number, from official sender IDs, and let you pay only through their own website, app or authorised payment apps.

શું કરવું

  1. 1 Check your bill only on your electricity board’s official website or app
  2. 2 Do not call the number in the message and do not install any app
  3. 3 If you paid or shared card details, block the card and call 1930
  4. 4 Report the sender on Sanchar Saathi (Chakshu)
