- A “police officer” contacts you on WhatsApp, Skype or a video call
- You are told not to disconnect or tell anyone
- Threat of immediate arrest for a parcel, SIM or account you do not recognise
- Request to transfer money to a “safe” or “RBI” account for verification
ഇത് എങ്ങനെ നടക്കുന്നു
It usually starts with a call about a parcel, a SIM card or a bank account “used in a crime”. The call is transferred to a fake officer, often on a video call from a room made to look like a police station, with uniforms and official-looking letters.
You are told you are under “digital arrest”, must stay on camera, must not tell your family, and must move your savings to a “safe government account” while you are investigated. The money goes straight to mule accounts.
There is no such thing as a digital arrest in Indian law. No agency questions or arrests people over WhatsApp or Skype, and no agency asks you to transfer money to prove your innocence.

എന്ത് ചെയ്യണം
- 1 Disconnect. A real agency sends a written notice and never asks for money
- 2 Tell a family member immediately — isolation is the scammer’s main weapon
- 3 If you paid, call 1930 at once and report at cybercrime.gov.in
- 4 Report the number on Sanchar Saathi (Chakshu) and mark it as fraud in SafeCaller
