How it works
The message looks urgent and official, often with your bank’s name and a short link. The page copies the bank’s login screen and asks for your customer ID, password, card details and finally the OTP.
Sometimes a caller “helps” you through the process, or asks you to install a screen-sharing app so they can “fix” your KYC. With the OTP or screen access they can move money out within minutes.
Banks do not block accounts over SMS links, and never ask for your OTP, PIN, password or CVV — not on the phone, not in a form.

What to do
- 1 Do not click. Open your bank’s official app or visit the branch to check KYC status
- 2 Never share an OTP — it authorises a transaction, not a “verification”
- 3 If you entered details, call your bank to block cards and net banking, then call 1930
- 4 Report the SMS or number on Sanchar Saathi (Chakshu)
