No bank, police officer or company will ever ask for them on a call or chat.
No one is arrested on a video call
'Digital arrest' does not exist in Indian law. Real officers never demand money to close a case.
Pause, hang up, call back
Call the official number from the website or your card — never the number the caller gives you.
Fraudsters pose as police, CBI, customs or narcotics officers, claim you are linked to a crime and keep you on a video call until you transfer money “for verification”.
SMS, WhatsApp messages and calls warn that your bank account, card or SIM will be blocked unless you update KYC through a link or an “executive” on the phone.
An SMS says your last bill was not updated and your connection will be cut tonight unless you call an “electricity officer” — who then asks you to pay a small amount through a link or app.
A WhatsApp or Telegram message offers easy money for liking videos or rating hotels. The first payouts are real; then you must “invest” in prepaid tasks that never pay back.
Unregulated loan apps approve small loans in minutes, cut huge “fees”, demand repayment in days and then threaten you and everyone in your contact list.
A recorded voice or “courier executive” says a parcel in your name was seized with illegal items and transfers you to fake police who demand money to “close the case”.
